Delicious spinach bread. I think it’s healthy, smells wonderful and it has a really fun color!
Ingredients:
1/2 cup warm water
3 bag instant yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup water
1 cup spinach (if you like spinach, use more than this amount)
1 tablespoon oil
1 1/2 tablespoon salt
5 1/2 cup flour
Mix the sugar, 1/2 cup warm water and the 3 bag instant yeast in a large bowl. Let it raise for about 10-15 minute. Meanwhile you can make the spinach base, all you need is 1 cup spinach and 1 cup water and blend it until you get a green liquid, now you can add the salt, the oil and any other seasoning you want.
Now the fun part is coming, the kneading (maybe you don’t think it’s fun, but after a stressful day it is fun to “beat” something… really hard…).
So, if the yeast rose, add the flour and the spinach base to it and mix it together. Knead it for about 3-5 minute, you’ll see when it’s fine.
Cover the dough with a tablecloth for 30 minute.
After the half hour it doubled (tripled?), I cut it into halves and formed it into loaves.
I covered the loaves for another 10 more minute, in the mean time I pre-heated the oven. Use egg wash for the better color, but you can skip it if you want to.
Bake them for 30-45 minute, middle heat!
It’s good for your health, if you don’t like the taste of the spinach, use just 1 cup of it, if you’re a busy mother who try to make the kids eat “greens”, it’s perfect for you, they’ll never know!
